End on the sunset tower shot as the Rocky Mountains chapter closes. Keep audio natural — the canyon echoes and waterfall sound make this hit differently with no music. Add music only after the final rappel.
♪ First half: ambient sound only (canyon echo, water). After canyon exit: triumphant electronic or post-rock build. End on a single sustained note over the sunset mountains.
Day 7 · Tuesday August 11 · Calgary + Departure

The goodbye. Last frame.

Easy morning, loose shots. The goal today is capturing the end of the trip — the moment of leaving, the airport, the flight. The "departure" video is a perfect bookend to the "arrival" video from Day 1. Target: 45 sec emotional closer.

Final cut: ~45 sec Record total: ~15 min

Morning Routine · East Village

Hold the X4 low on the stick at table height while everyone orders or waits for coffee. The 360° captures the café atmosphere — barista, counter, kids, the brick building exterior through the window — in one ambient clip. This is the slow counterpoint to the action of previous days.

✂ Reframe & Edit
Pull a wide ambient shot of the whole café including the group. Speed up 3× for a busy city feeling. 4 sec in final cut — contrasts with the Rockies stillness of the previous 6 days.

YYC Airport Gate / Plane Window
Two shots: (1) Hold the X4 on the stick at chest height as you all walk through the departure hall — the gate, the crowd, the plane outside — the "leaving" feeling. (2) Press the X4 against the plane window during takeoff and capture the Calgary skyline with the Rockies visible to the west as you climb. This is your closing image.

✂ Reframe & Edit
Departure hall: overhead reframe looking down at the four of you navigating the airport — 4× speed, 4 sec. Takeoff: window reframe, look down at Calgary receding, then tilt up to horizon where Rockies disappear into cloud. This is the visual period at the end of the trip's sentence. Slow to 0.5× as the mountains disappear. 10 sec. Full silence or a single piano note.
Day 7 Final Cut — ~45 sec · Trip Closer

Riverside walk (4s)
Departure hall overhead 4× (4s)
Takeoff · city below (5s)
Rockies disappearing in cloud 0.5× (10s)
Title card: "See you next time." (6s)
The Rockies disappearing in cloud as you climb is your closing image — use it with full silence for 5 seconds before any music. This video is a 45-sec emotional pause, not an action piece. Mirror Day 1 in reverse: Day 1 opened with mountains appearing on the horizon; Day 7 ends with them disappearing behind cloud. The circular structure gives the whole trip arc a satisfying close.
♪ Mirror Day 1's music choice. Start with silence on the takeoff, single piano note as the Rockies disappear. Fade to black on the last frame of white cloud.
X4 Field Notes

Before you go.

🔋
Battery Strategy
Bring 3 batteries minimum. The stargazing timelapse alone will drain one. Charge one in the car via USB-C while shooting with another. Cold glacier temperatures drain batteries faster — keep a spare in an inside jacket pocket.
Starlapse 90 min ≈ 1 full battery · Cold = 30% less life
💾
Storage
5.7K 360° at 30fps = ~7 GB/hour. Starlapse is much smaller (stills). Bring a 512GB microSD minimum. Offload to a laptop or SSD each evening — Day 5 (Parkway hyperlapse + glacier) will be your biggest storage day.
7 GB/hr video · 512GB recommended · Daily offload
🧽
Lens Care
The X4's dual lenses are front and back — spray from Athabasca Falls will hit both. Carry the lens cloth at all times. On the glacier, UV reflection creates lens flare spots — wipe before every glacier shot. At Minnewanka: salt and spray. Wipe before every new location.
Wipe at: every waterfall · glacier · lakeshore
🎯
Invisible Stick Rule
The selfie stick disappears in 360° — but only if it's centred. Hold it straight, not at an angle, and the stick will stitch away cleanly. Extend it fully for overhead shots. For ground shots, a mini tripod eliminates wobble entirely.
Stick must be centred · extend fully for overhead
📱
The Reframe Mindset
Stop thinking about framing before you shoot. With 360°, you decide the angle in editing. Just aim the camera roughly at the scene and let it capture everything. The magic happens in post, not in the field. Your job in the field is just to be present.
Frame in editing · not in field
🌙
Night Settings Quick Ref
Starlapse mode only. ISO 6400, shutter 15–20 sec, 8-sec interval. Absolutely still surface — even breathing near the camera causes blur. The X4's Starlapse noise reduction is significantly better than regular video mode at night.
Starlapse · ISO 6400 · 15s shutter · 8s interval
🎬
The 3-Pull Rule
For every important shot, pull at least 3 different reframes in editing: (1) wide standard, (2) looking up or down, (3) tracking/following someone. This triples your effective footage from a single clip and gives you editing options you can't get with a fixed camera.
3 reframes minimum from every hero clip
🎵
Audio Strategy
The X4's spatial audio captures 360° sound — the Athabasca Falls roar, the canyon echo, the wind on the Parkway, the stargazing silence. Use this natural audio under the music for depth. Silence is your boldest editing choice — use it for the glacier and the stars.
Spatial audio ON · silence for glacier + stars
